Frequently Asked Questions

The honest answers to what people usually ask.

Do you accept insurance?

Yes — I'm in-network with Aetna, Anthem, BlueCross BlueShield, Optum, Oxford, and UnitedHealthcare (UHC/UBH). If your plan isn't listed, you may still have out-of-network benefits and I can provide a superbill for reimbursement.

How much is a session?

$175 per 50-minute individual therapy session. The first 15-minute consultation is free.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes. I offer secure video sessions to clients located anywhere in Virginia. You can switch between in-person (at my Roanoke office) and telehealth from week to week as your life requires.

Where is your office?

221 Albemarle Avenue SW, Roanoke, VA 24016. Parking is available on the street and in the lot behind the building.

How often will we meet?

Usually weekly to start. As you stabilize, we may move to every other week or monthly. The cadence is something we decide together based on what you need.

How long will I be in therapy?

It depends on what brought you in. Some clients work with me for a few months on a specific issue and finish. Others stay longer for ongoing support through bigger life seasons. We talk about this openly throughout the work.

What if I just need someone to talk to?

That's a completely legitimate reason to start therapy. You don't need a diagnosis or a crisis to come in. Plenty of my clients come because something feels off and they want a space to think out loud with someone trained to help.

Do you do Christian counseling?

Yes — for clients who want their faith integrated into the work. I'm equally comfortable with clients who don't, and I follow your lead on what role spirituality plays in our sessions.

What's the difference between baby blues and postpartum depression?

Baby blues affect roughly 80% of new mothers in the first two weeks postpartum — mood swings, tearfulness, anxiety — and usually pass on their own. Postpartum depression lasts longer (more than two weeks), is more intense, can start anytime in the first year, and benefits significantly from professional support. If you're not sure which you're experiencing, that's reason enough to reach out.

I'm having scary intrusive thoughts. Am I dangerous?

Almost certainly not. Intrusive thoughts — sudden disturbing images or 'what ifs' that horrify you — are a common and treatable symptom of postpartum anxiety and OCD. The fact that they distress you is exactly the signal that they are not desires. They are anxiety in a particular costume. Please reach out; we can work through them.

How do I know if we're a good fit?

The free 15-minute consultation exists for exactly this. We'll talk about what's going on for you, I'll tell you how I work, and we'll both have a sense of whether it's a fit before you commit to anything.

What if I'm in crisis right now?

Please call or text 988 (the national mental health crisis line) or go to your nearest emergency department. For perinatal-specific crisis support, Postpartum Support International's HelpLine is 1-800-944-4773. Once you're safe, please come back and we can talk about ongoing support.
